Toxic Plumes

Where will it be today?

With such high volumes of poorly treated waste water being dumped into the ocean every day, there is a significant chance that you will come into contact with contaminated water at your day at the beach.

Grab the latest wind forecast from the Bureau of Meteorology here, and once you find out what the wind is going to be you can get a pretty good idea of where the plume will be: (the toxic plume moves up and down the coastline depending on which way the wind is blowing)

Here is an example of Gunnamatta’s toxic plume movement:

  • Southerly - at the shoreline at Gunnamatta and St Andrews
  • South-Easterly - St Andrews, Rye
  • Easterly - St Andrews , Rye and further east
  • North Easterly - St Andrews
  • Northerly - out to sea (but not too far out, only 300m)
  • North Westerly - Gunnamatta, Fingal, Cape Schanck
  • Westerly - Gunnamatta, Fingal, Cape Schanck
  • South Westerly- Gunnamatta, Fingal and Cape Schanck

ENTER THE WATER AT YOUR OWN RISK!

If you develop any medical symptoms or become ill from swimming at any of these beaches please fill in a medical response form and send it to us - the number of cases is mounting steadily!
